Although Italian cigars are perhaps less well known than their famous Cuban counterparts, they also deserve to be held in the greatest esteem, and possess many fine qualities. Tuscan by provenance, the production of the Italian cigar has remained largely unchanged over the past 200 years, and with good reason. Any aficionado will tell you that the 30 to 50-year fermentation of the Kentucky tobacco is the key to the characteristically intense and rich tastes, which have attracted historical luminaries such as Verdi, Puccini and Garibaldi. The artisan essence lives on today through the touch of the ‘sigarie’ – Italian craftswomen who are highly skilled in the art of cigar production.
The James J. Fox Italian Cigar Collection
The James J. Fox collection contains many superb cigars from Italy. A classic Italian cigar in our range is the Toscano Toscanello. With a minimum smoking time of 20-30 minutes, this particular cigar is medium in strength and distinctive in appearance, due to the absence of shaping in the production process; the uneven finish is a defining feature of this handmade cigar. They differ from Caribbean cigars as they don’t have to be stored in a humidor - there is no chance of them drying out and cracking, which is an attractive asset for many connoisseurs. This 3” cigar is regarded as ideal for both beginner and more advanced smokers, and is a favourite with our customers.
